Daisy is a 3 year old Labrador Retriever. She came in to the surgery one day for a routine appointment.

Labrador Retrievers are prone to weight gain. They love their food and are always hungry for more!!!! Daisy’s weight was recorded at 39kg. This was too much for her size and shape so it was decided that she would need to go on a weight reduction program.

Weight gain in any pet can cause health issues including:

  • Joint problems
  • Heart problems
  • Diabetes

This may lead to a shorter life expectancy,

We changed Daisy’s regular diet to a prescription only diet for overweight pets.  Any ‘extra’ treats were taken out of her food allowance for the day.

We started the new diet in February with a target weight of 34kg. It was estimated that she would reach her target by the beginning of May.

We weighed her every 2 weeks to see how she progressing. on average she lost 0.5kg-1kg at each weigh in.

At her most recent weigh in on the 3rd May she had reached her target weight of 34kg.

We are very proud of Daisy for reaching her target weight. That is why we have crowned her Pet of the Month
